The past couple of days i have been tinkering around with a Alpha release of RCbot a bot for TF2 with hopes to get it up and running on our TF2 server but unfortunately it seems we won't be having bots for a while.

First of all the bot being in Alpha release and not Beta meant allot of the features were missing including waypoint files for each map.
There were only 3 waypoint files included and they were all for Capture The Flag maps which was puzzling, so after doing some reading it seems the bots only work on ctf maps as they don't understand what  control points are or what a bombcart is in the pl maps.

So i thought i would have some fun and see what results i would get for cp and pl maps.
I tried creating waypoints for cp_well and all they did was run over the control points then i made some for pl_goldrush and the only way to get them to move the cart was to make the bot path in line with the track so they would bump into the cart and make it move along, and it seemed to work pretty well.

The RCbot available is for windows operating system and i noticed our new TF2 server was Linux so i couldn't even get it running so i tried it on our old TF2 server which is Windows, and i managed to get the bot to work but they didn't move.
I could only seem to get the bots working on a LAN game and after doing some reading it seems it doesn't work on dedicated servers at the moment so thats not good news.

They do seem promising bots and they do work well but it seems we will just have to wait until he has a better version out that supports dedicated servers and Linux.

learning linux wont help you there.  You would have to port it over and I dont see the source code on their site.

i just went to the rcbot page.  they got a beta realease now with a bunch of fixes.  it came out in febuary.........

Poking about a bit there is a bot program called Omni-bot that seems kinda completed.  That might be worth a look.

The bots that TF2 does have are absolutely useless for gameplay, though they do make for some spectacular videos...

hl2:dm does have similar objectives to tf2.  the weapons are different though.  Is it for other mods or just hl2:dm right now?
